I took an adventure to whole foods this past Sunday, and it was delicious! I bought all of the college dorm staples: soup, healthy chips, and fruit. AND I also bought some frozen (ORGANIC..thanks whole foods!) bell pepper/onion combo. I usually put them in my Asian noodles that I make in the microwave. Bell peppers are, in their own way, a super food. There are three different colors: green, red, and yellow. A red bell pepper is just a green bell pepper in a later state of maturity. The yellow and red peppers contain more carotene when compared to the green bell peppers.

If you crunch on half a cup of peppers, it’s only about 20 calories! No sodium, no carbs, but they contain tons of Vitamin A and C. The red and yellow peppers especially!

SKULL CANDY SUCKS.

but maybe this is a good thing, since I listen to my music 24/7 (even in the bathroom….ha), and studies have shown that OBVIOUSLY listening to music at high volumes with headphones as opposed to speakers damage the tiny fibers in your ear that convey sound.

but the point is, SKULL CANDY SUCKS.

Currently playing: Somebody to Love –Justin Bieber ( x_x)

Stage 1: Lust

This is the first stage of love and is driven by the sex hormones testosterone and estrogen – in both men and women.

Stage 2: Attraction

This is the amazing time when you are truly love-struck and can think of little else. Scientists think that three main neurotransmitters are involved in this stage; adrenaline, dopamine and serotonin.

Adrenaline

The initial stages of falling for someone activates your stress response, increasing your blood levels of adrenalin and cortisol. This has the charming effect that when you unexpectedly bump into your new love, you start to sweat, your heart races and your mouth goes dry.

Dopamine

Helen Fisher asked newly ‘love struck’ couples to have their brains examined

and discovered they have high levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine. This chemical stimulates ‘desire and reward’ by triggering an intense rush of pleasure. It has the same effect on the brain as taking cocaine!

Fisher suggests “couples often show the signs of surging dopamine: increased energy, less need for sleep or food, focused attention and exquisite delight in smallest details of this novel relationship”

Serotonin

And finally, serotonin. One of love’s most important chemicals that may explain why when you’re falling in love, your new lover keeps popping into your thoughts.

Stage 3: Attachment

Attachment is the bond that keeps couples together long enough for them to have and raise children. Scientists think there might be two major hormones involved in this feeling of attachment; oxytocin and vasopressin.

Oxytocin – The cuddle hormone

Oxytocin is a powerful hormone released by men and women during orgasm.

It probably deepens the feelings of attachment and makes couples feel much closer to one another after they have had sex. The theory goes that the more sex a couple has, the deeper their bond becomes.

Oxytocin also seems to help cement the strong bond between mum and baby and is released during childbirth. It is also responsible for a mum’s breast automatically releasing milk at the mere sight or sound of her young baby.Diane Witt, assistant professor of psychology from New York has showed that if you block the natural release of oxytocin in sheep and rats, they reject their own young.Conversely, injecting oxytocin into female rats who’ve never had sex, caused them to fawn over another female’s young, nuzzling the pups and protecting them as if they were their own.

Vasopressin

Vasopressin is another important hormone in the long-term commitment stage and is released after sex.

Vasopressin (also called anti-diuretic hormone) works with your kidneys to control thirst. Its potential role in long-term relationships was discovered when scientists looked at the prairie vole.

Prairie voles indulge in far more sex than is strictly necessary for the purposes of reproduction. They also – like humans – form fairly stable pair-bonds.

When male prairie voles were given a drug that suppresses the effect of vasopressin, the bond with their partner deteriorated immediately as they lost their devotion and failed to protect their partner from new suitors.

I mentioned Vasopressin in one of my older posts about Tiger Woods, check it out!

Lately it seems like the only things I’ve been doing are studying for classes (NOT) and watching korean dramas, namely Sungkyunkwan Scandal (IT’S SO GOOD). I’ve actually been distancing myself from everyone, because when people ask me if I want to hang out…..I’m usually “studying” (code word for watching dramas). Anyways, today I resigned myself to the fact that I will NEVER be able to marry see Song Joon Ki [Yeorim/ Gu Yong Ha/ Playboy ] in SKKS.

ANYWAYS. The psychological connection to this: filling up emotional voids in your life by watching dramas?! I think people do this with music, books, T.V, and any other sort of entertainment, when they feel down or lonely. It can be compared to emotional eating. The fact is, I really miss my friends back home, and being around people who’ve known me for years. I feel like everybody here, they don’t really know me. So, as a defense mechanism (?), I’m distancing myself…hm..

Recently we had a suicide week here at UT, and there was a huge emphasis to report suspicious behaviors of your friends, such as : distancing themselves, not speaking to others, acting overtly depressed, etc. AAAND, who can forget about the shooting a few weeks ago, where a Sophomore committed suicide?

The fact is, college is actually a very lonely place. It’s important to make friends and keep yourself surrounded by people you like. It’s extremely easy to feel lost in the crowd or lonely. Just remember that there are always people who care about you and love you. Make sure to call your family/friends back home if you get depressed, or start up a conversation with your roommate/neighbor if you feel lonely. Don’t keep yourself in. College has tons of activities going on!

I, for one, am out of my loner mood, and I really appreciate everyone around me. Everyone was worried about me (since I basically was a stranger for the week of Chem. midterm..ha), and it’s nice to know that you’ve made a mark on someone’s life.

AAAND I’m still watching my dramas ( who can resist?) but limiting myself, and I’m trying to go out more ( i sound like a freak..kekekeke). I really have to resign myself to the fact that I can’t marry any korean celeb (umm namelly Song Joong Ki..shallow, I know..but I promise it’s his acting as Gu Yong Ha that makes me … *quiver*..and not his astonishingly good looks as “flower boy” )…sigh..

Lately, I’ve been taking tons of naps in the evening, waking up at 10 and staying up until 8 a.m.

Are our sleeping habits directed by any pattern? We are now in the future era, where night nurses work 12 hours of night shift, and then go home and sleep the day away. They are basically nocturnal. Is this good for the health? Is it possible that as long as you get the right amount of sleep, the time of day does not matter? hmmm.

Today, I finished a chemistry assignment within 3 minutes of when it was due.

I was high.

Anyways, I remember hearing in science class that endorphins were that “natural” high that your body produces, after exercise is an example.

Endorphins are neurotransmitters produced after you exercise. That’s why a good run can get you out of a bad mood. When endorphins are released, they act as the body’s natural pain reliever. It’s either that the body thinks of exercise as “pain” or that fatty acids acidify in your blood, causing the release of endorphins.

Exercise lasting 20-30 minutes is the best for inviting endorphins.

First it started with facebook statuses like this:

Then………

Various Football teams are including pink in their uniform.

But what’s cooler than pink FRUIT? like GUAVA? Specially when it has these amazing health benefits, and it tastes HEAVENly.

Guava is a necessity for an individual who are trying to lose weight but do not want to compromise on his/her health.

Guava is very rich in vitamins, proteins, and dietary fiber. It keeps you full for quite a long period of time.

Weirdly, guava can outdo regular citrus fruits like oranges in the intake of Vitamin C.

It is said to help control diabetes.

It works better than the best astringents on the market to tone up and tighten your skin. For this, you can either eat the fruit, or you can make a concoction of it’s immature fruits and leaves.
